They were called Nyonyas for the women and the Babas for the men, the , peranakan porcelain ware was always reserved for festive occasions such as wedding, birthdays and anniversaries and they are decorated with suitable Chinese motifs, symbolizing marital harmony, longevity and also as a status among the Nyonyas and the babas.<br /><br />The Peranakan Chinese ware was crafted to the needs and taste of the striate Chinese and they have been produced exclusively for the Nyonyas and the Babas. The Nyonyas ware was produced when Peranakan communities were in Penang and Singapore, the special features of Nyonya wares is their colourful nature expressed in the background colours as well as the ornateness of the decorative motifs.
